March 14, 2012 – Pray on

Twice in today’s reading I saw this phrase ~

But the Lord listened to me that time also.

~ Deuteronomy 9:19b and 10:10b

Imagine that. Our God, the Creator of the Universe, who is omnipotent  (Ge 18:14Job 42:2Nu 11:23Mt 19:26Rev 1:84:811:1719:6), omnipresent (Psalm 139:7891011,12Deut 4:39 Jeremiah 23:23) and omniscient.

God knows all things perfectly (Ps. 147:5Job 37:161 John 3:20), sees and hears everything (Ex 3:72Chr 16:9Ps 34:15102:1920Pr 5:2115:3Jer. 16:16), knows from all eternity the entire plan of the ages and the part of every man in that plan (Isa. 46:9101148:34567Acts 15:18Eph. 1:345,6789101112).

God has perfect knowledge of each individual person and of all his ways (Ps. 33:131415139:1-16Pr. 5:21), his words (Ps. 139:4Matt. 12:353637), his thoughts (1Chr 28:9Ps. 94:11139:12Mt. 9:4), his afflictions and trials (Ge 21:1718191Cor. 10:13Rev. 2:91013and his future actions and final state (Gen. 18:19Ex. 3:19Isa. 44:28-45:5Matt. 25:3132333441Acts 27:22232425). Wow.

Tie all those scriptures together with our verse for todayAm I the only one on the verge of tears right now? Because when confronted with His magnificence and glory and power….our prayers matter to Him. The ones we offer on behalf of ourselves and others, for healing, for restoration, for provision, for intercession, for forgiveness. They matter to Him. I have His ear.

Recently I offered prayers on behalf of a friend who was diagnosed with lung cancer a few months ago. She recovered miraculously from that with very minimal side effects. Last week I learned she was going in for surgery for a cancerous brain tumor. I offered prayers again. A few days later she emailed that the surgery was a success and the cancer is gone. Praise God. And that scripture comes alive for me.

If you are praying for something, press on. Don’t stop. I know one of these days you can say just like Moses did: the Lord listened to me that time also.

Thank you, Father.

  1. T, how can you just be on the verge of tears? I’m a blabbering mess here just thinking about our awesome, wonderful, majestic God listening to me. So humbling. Thanks for this post. Myk’s reaction to this at FB was an explosive hallelujah!Wow, indeed!(And you made me come out of hiding again.)

  2. Joyah,It was all I could do to finish the post. God listens! He does not just hear. There is a difference. (My son hears what I say but sometimes I don't think he listens.) God listens. To realize His power and glory as seen thru the Scriptures then to picture Him leaning down to listen to our humble prayers….ah, hallelujah, indeed.  Thanks, friend.G&P
