And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none.
(Ezekiel 22:30 ESV)
That has to be one of the saddest verses in the bible.
In the days of Abraham, God gracefully granted Abraham’s request to save Sodom and Gomorrah if there were 10 righteous men. Only Lot, his wife and two daughters were ushered out (and we know what happened to Lot’s wife). Lot was a highly respected man in the area but he wasn’t able to bring anyone with him.
In the days of Ezekiel, we find God preparing to bring judgment against Israel. He looked for someone to stand in the gap and He found no one. The prophets were liars and priests were busy with their rituals, bowing to idols and profaning themselves. God was so mad the glory of God left the temple!
In our day, our land desperately needs healing and God is still looking. How many will He find? Will He find even one willing to pay the cost or are we all too busy to care? 1 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. God is willing, but it starts with His people. Us. He is waiting for someone to stand in the gap. Someone who will pray and press on even when the answers do not seem forthcoming. Someone who will pray not only for her own needs but also for the needs of others.
In his commentary, Jon Courson stated that “God has chosen to limit Himself to working through prayer. He has chosen to partner with man…He desires to cultivate an intimate relationship with us. He loves us. He wants to spend time with us. Therefore, He made an arrangement that the only way the blessing He has for you wil be released is by spending time with Him. God wants to cultivate a relationship with you.” (Jon Courson’s Application Commentary Old Testament, vol 2)
So let us take advantage of this privilege. Pray. Pray for a revival. Pray for the softening of hearts, the opening of eyes. Pray for the freedom from bondage.
Speaking of which, the Harvest Crusade is happening on Saturday in Los Angeles, CA. You can tune in by going to the website. I pray that many will come to know the Lord. That the person who is designated to complete the fullness of the gentiles would be there and get saved already so Jesus can come and get His bride!
In the meantime, I pray that when God moves His eyes to and fro looking for someone to bridge the gap, may He find you and me willing to do so.
